Steampunk

I've been spending a lot my time researching jewelry design + the steampunk genre. I found some amazing, wonderful & inspirational pieces but I haven't made anything of my own. Part of it is because, holy crap, how could I ever create something so beautiful? Most of my lack-of-creation is the mechanics behind it. Do I solder the pocket watch movement onto the pendant? How do I attach the flowers to the movement and then a gear to the flower? I suppose a lot of it will be trial and error but I'm scared of ruining things. I could spend all day at the craft store... not that that's something new.
