Wheezing, Part II

TUESDAY
After having a runny nose on Monday, he woke up wheezing this morning. He was doing okay until around 1pm, then started complaining about his mouth hurting. He was vomiting by 2pm. We were in the car going to urgent care by 5pm. Uuuugh.

The doctor was nice and told us:
  1. If the nebulizer didn't help, we'd have to go to the hospital. It did help. He prescribed us an oral steroid.
  2. We have an appt with the pediatrician tomorrow morning to discuss the meaning of all this.
My thoughts:
  1. I'm worried it's asthma. The doc said it's possible. He also said it could be something that only happens through the winter then he grows out of it.
  2. I worry about all these steroids -- nebulizer and oral? He's going to grow a third arm or something.
  3. I am going to start to worry every time he has a runny nose. Is it going to turn into an attack?
  4. Erik does not like being covered in vomit. Five times in a row. Weird! Also, I've learned to pack extra clothes in the car for emergencies. Finn rode home in my maternity sweater, no socks or shoes.
WEDNESDAY
To sum up today:

They said they don't diagnose asthma until they are older, but if my doc had to bet, he'd bet Finn will develop asthma. We came up with a "asthma plan" which includes Singulair every day and Pulmicort & Albuterol when he has a cold. And if he gets REALLY bad, they said we'd give him Prednisolone (what they prescribed him last night). He said we'd do the plan through the winter.

I'm hesitant to start Singulair because:
  1. He's only had two episodes of this (although they were only seven weeks apart...).
  2. I just read a crapload of scary side effects of Singulair.
  3. My gut tells me it's an intolerance to dairy -- this is something I've considered for a while due to his eczema. I think it's starting to manifest itself in a different way. Although I also know it's hereditary (Erik had asthma, Cheryl had eczema). Maybe the milk allergy is hereditary?
Ugh, the things we do for our babes. I'm feeling really stressed about what to do. I may call a specialist for a second opinion. We are also going to try eliminating dairy from Finn's diet to see if it helps -- I think, at the very least, this will help with the eczema.

Forensic Files: Halloween Edition

Jill and I were talking about Finn's costume when he was five months old. It's still my favorite.
